2012 Taklimakan Rally launched

On May 15, the China Auto and Motorcycle Rally around Taklamakan Desert 2012, sponsored by the Urumqi economic and technological developmental zone (Toutunhe District) held a press conference in Urumqi.

Ren Xianqi, a specially invited guest and star singer from Taiwan, was present at the press conference. As a representative of racing drivers, Ren kicked off the launch ceremony along with officials from the regional government, regional sports bureau and developmental zone administration committee.

Yan Jianchang, director of the automobile and motor sports management center of the State General Administration of Sports, said that the Taklimakan Rally would help promote the beautiful landscape, natural resources and cultural heritages of Xinjiang through media coverage. This would contribute to improving the reputation of Xinjiang.

At the press conference, the organizing committee of the Taklimakan Rally signed an agreement with the Urumqi Economic and Technological Developmental Zone (Toutunhe District) about sponsoring the Weitai Cup • China Auto and Motorcycle Rally around the Taklimakan Desert.

Zhou Qing, member of the standing committee of the regional Party committee and director of the publicity department, said that by sponsoring the Taklimakan Rally, the developmental zone would participate in the opening ceremony, the race and promotional events. It helps raise the popularity of Xinjiang sports tourism and the developmental zone.

The 2012 Taklimakan Rally will be held from Sept 15 to 25. The rally will pass through Urumqi, Changji, Karamay, the Altay prefecture, Turpan, and Hami, covering a total of 4,000 kilometers. The rally courses will be over 2,200 kilometers in eight sections. The rally has set up the automobile rally, motorcycle rally and truck rally. Nearly 100 teams from China and other countries are expected to contend in the rally.

Ren Xianqi sent good wishes to Chinese race drivers, and encouraged them to sharpen their skills to achieve high results.
